Set within the grounds of Pratis Barns a wedding venue on the outskirts of Leven, looking over the east neuk of Fife, Scotland.
My aim is to provide locally grown seasonal flowers and encourage people to buy Scottish grown flowers
From 2021
Flowers will be available to buy during the growing season from late March to end of October. What happens for the rest of the year?
Dry as many flowers to use and source flowers from other UK growers through a cooperative of British flower growers and farms all over the UK
The cooperative is called
Flowers from the farm
What is Flowers from the Farm?
Flowers from the Farm is the award-winning co-operative of British cut flower growers founded in 2011. Flowers from the Farm is a growing not-for-profit movement with over 500 active members from Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to Inverness. Our members’ flower farms range in size from micro-businesses on allotments and cutting gardens to sites of up to 6 acres or more.
Flowers from the Farm has three principal aims:
• to encourage more people to grow cut flowers for market in Britain
• to promote British flowers
• and to foster friendship and sharing through meetings, activities and communication.
Flowers grown on site. Everything on offer is seasonal
let’s make our flowers much more sustainable , reduce air miles and buy locally grown flowers
I opted for early retirement from the NHS after many years nursing. Ithen threw myself into learning attending college for two years retraining to complete an NC then an HNC in Horticulture, and thought. "A new adventure."
I did a work placement on a flower farm at the beginning of my course(Keeping the plot flowers) and knew this is what I want to do so here I am going to give it a go!
I approached Nicola and Patrick proprietors of Pratis Barns and told them about my interest and the rest is history.
I have a third of an acre to fill full of flowers and foliage and also some gardening in the beautiful grounds of Pratis barns wedding venue
.
Flower farming is all about home grown seasonal flowers, we use what is in season, for bouquets, DIY buckets and Buttonholes.
Dried petals used for confetti or table confetti, sold by the litre. Only half your guest will throw confetti- ask for advice. Bamboo cones sold separately or Glassine bags or just the confetti for you do your own creative crafting
Bridal parties enjoy the taking part in the preparations for their special date. Why not think about DIY buckets to decorate your venue
Why not order some buttonholes along with your DIY buckets all made from flowers in the field wrapped in twine to give a natural look
Pictured Left.... A just to say..... jar of flowers from the field available delivered locally
Who doesn.t love a fresh foliage wreath on their door
We also think about loved ones who are no longer with us, a remembrance wreath is also available
All images are of flowers grown on the farm or sourced locally from other local flower farmers.
